Lifecycles

The calculator is based on a report prepared for Viscount Reuse in 2023 by independent consultant Lifecycle Strategies Pty Ltd. The report compares the environmental impact of Viscount's reusable polypropylene crates with single use corrugated fibreboard boxes of a comparable size. The report considers a range of factors including raw materials, manufacturing process, transport, distribution and end-of-life of the products assessed. Key assumptions made in preparation of the report include:

  • Each polypropylene (PP) crate has a 10-year life, which equates to 120 uses
  • At end of life (EOL), PP crates are recycled (97.5%) or directed to landfill (2.5%)
  • 100% of corrugated boxes are recycled at EOL
  • PP crates are manufactured using 20% recycled resin
  • Fibreboard is manufactured using 20% - 80% recycled material. Sourced from both Domestic and International locations.
